Crush Injury to Body

A crush injury occurs when a part of the body receives a great deal of pressure of force, usually by being squeezed between two heavy objects. Crush injuries are common at construction sites, where heavy objects are moved around.

Crush injuries can affect a construction worker's hand, foot, or chest. A crush injury may be caused by a dropped containers, collapse of a roof or building, machine malfunction, a fallen boom crane, or equipment running over a hand or foot, a trench cave in, or a heavy machinery accident.

Crush injuries can have a wide range of serious effects, including fractures, internal injuries, head and brain injuries, and back injuries. Crush injuries are among the most serious and permanent injuries which an accident victim can suffer. Crush injuries can be catastrophic injuries.  In some cases, a crush injury may result in amputation and permanent disability for the affected worker.

Symptoms of crush injuries can include:
  • Bleeding;

  • Nerve injury (which can result in Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy [RSD] or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome [CRPS];

  • Compartment syndrome (increased pressure in an arm or leg that causes serious muscle, nerve, blood vessel, and tissue damage);

  • Fracture;

  • Bruising;

  • Laceration (cut or open wound);

  • Secondary infection;

  • Smashed fingers.
Crush injuries may require long and expensive physical therapy and rehabilitation. Caring legal representation from an experienced crush injury attorney will smooth the recovery of the crush accident victim, and help him or her obtain just and fair compensation for this terrible injury.
