Steps to Take if You're Involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident

Download my FREE Special Reports: “ Discover How Insurance Companies Hammer a Stake Through the Heart of Your Accident Case” and “The 14 Secrets to Protecting Yourself after a Car Accident.”

Most people don't know what to do in the event of an accident because, fortunately, it doesn't happen very often. We suggest you keep this information in your car in case you are ever involved in an accident. If you've already been involved in an accident, gather as much information as possible and bring it with you when you meet with us for a consultation.
  1. Stop immediately.
  2. Assist the injured, and call an ambulance if needed.
  3. Don't move the vehicles.
  4. Call the police and file a report.
  5. Protect yourself and others by turning on your flashers.
  6. Exchange only your name, address, and phone number with the other driver.
  7. Make sure your insurance papers are in order.
  8. Wait until the police arrive and assist the officer where possible.
  9. Admit no guilt or wrongdoing. Make sure your injuries are noted on the police report.
  10. Obtain the police report number.
  11. If a parked car is involved, try to locate the owner; otherwise leave a conspicuous note.
  12. Don't leave the scene until the police officer dismisses you.
  13. Get a thorough medical checkup.
  14. Keep records of all the doctors you see.
  15. Keep all medical bills and receipts. (See my FREE Special Report about New York State No-Fault law.)
  16. Take photographs -- of the vehicles, the accident scene, your injuries, and anything else you can think of.
  17. Fill in the form below and bring it to your attorney.
